textbook:

Eowyn is a secondary character in Lord of the Rings, but one of the most important. We don’t see her until The Two Towers, where she’s introduced as strong, independent and proud. She cares very much for her kingdom of Rohan and its king, Theodan. As the land slips closer and closer to Sauron’s hands, Eowyn refuses to be silent. Disguising herself as a man, she rides into The Battle of Gondor where she encounters Witch-king of Angmar, Lord of the Nazgul. After beheading his beast, she goes head to head with him to accomplish what no man before her was able to do.
